Teaching Assistant

  • Annual Salary: Competitive
  • Location: Plymouth
  • Job Type: Part-time (26.25 hours per week, 38 weeks per year), Fixed term until 31/08/2028

Join our team as a Teaching Assistant, working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff to support access to learning for pupils. This role involves assisting the teacher in managing pupils and the classroom environment, both inside and outside the main teaching area.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Implement a range of activities with individual children and groups to support learning and engagement.
  • Prepare resources and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive learning environment in collaboration with the class teacher and team members.
  • Engage with children to support their learning activities, including problem-solving and creative play.
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively, ensuring all pupils are engaged.
  • Conduct observations and assessments, providing developmental feedback and reports.
  • Support and participate in school visits, trips, and out-of-school activities, taking responsibility for a group under teacher supervision.
  • Assist with general administration tasks and maintain accurate records.
  • Promote inclusion and equal learning opportunities for all pupils.
  • Act as a role model and support behaviour management within the learning environment.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the school.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral, for liaising with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Basic keyboarding and ICT skills for supporting learning activities and operating office equipment like photocopiers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to professional development and engagement in Performance Development Reviews (PDRs).
